Lesson Objective: Enhance comprehension of key vocabulary through word generation, comparison, and contextual application
Grouping: Partners
Methodology: Students work in pairs to review vocabulary in a competitive format.
Duration: 15-20 minutes
It's game time.
How do you expose students to the same material over and over without it feeling monotonous? Change the format! This lesson invites students to apply the same connection-making strategies used in the capture sheets—only now, they’re working in pairs rather than following my lead. Lists, examples, non-examples, definitions… all that good stuff, just in a fresh format.
🖍 How the Routine Works
I can best explain this game through the student games. I recommend limiting the number of vocabulary terms to four cards. You can create multiple rounds for each unit. For example, for our Homophone Unit, I created four rounds: You're/Your, There/Their/They're, Its/It's, To/Two/Too. Once students finish a round, they trade in for a new set.

Check out the Interactive Unit Guides to see how this lesson fits within each unit.
